NIJ’s Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) program supports doctoral research with relevance to crime and criminal justice in the United States.
The fellowship provides up to three years of support within a five-year period and includes:
- $35,000/year student salary
- $12,000/year cost of education allowance
- $3,000/year research expenses
In previous years, NIJ had posted two separate GRF solicitations: Social and Behavioral Sciences (GRF-SBS) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (GRF-STEM). Starting this year, applicants from all fields of study are invited to apply under a single GRF funding opportunity.
The program has awarded 19 – 29 new fellows annually since 2015.
