PRIMARY ROLE
The Center for the Study of the Middle East (CSME) seeks a Design and Media Graduate Assistant (GA) for the 2021-22 academic year, requiring 20 hours of work per week. This position is for G901-eligible students only, and includes health insurance and a stipend. This position provides critical support for ensuring implementation of the Center’s activities. The Design and Media Graduate Assistant provides necessary support in the following key areas: website maintenance, marketing design, clerical duties, and logistical support for lectures, conferences and workshops.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has support responsibility for publicity and marketing of Center events; technological support for the Center’s online presence and audio and video management; Model Arab League delegate organization and chaperone. This position also supports both internal and external outreach activities, including the recruitment of advanced students and faculty experts for outreach programming. This position assists with various aspects involved in the planning and coordinating of events and conferences, specifically travel coordination, room reservations, and preparing itineraries, program schedules and support materials. This GA will also share responsibility for tracking data for evaluations associated with grant reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have an academic research interest in the Middle East, and preferably have knowledge of Arabic, but other regional languages are acceptable as well. These positions require someone who can work with CSME staff and fellow GAs in a team setting, as well as the ability to take charge of projects and work independently. Applicants should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be willing to perform a wide range of tasks, assisting the Center’s Director and Associate Director as necessary. The GA should have experience with and knowledge of website design and maintenance and Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), and be proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with IU computer systems (Buy.IU, Egencia, KFS, etc.) preferred.
