Job description: Join the editing team at the Assistive Technology and Accessibility Center (ATAC – atac.iu.edu) in their role of supporting students, faculty, and staff with disabilities to be successful at Indiana University. We work to make sure books, e-texts, and other course materials are accessible and usable for individuals with disabilities.

Successful candidates will learn about issues that determine a document’s accessibility, how to produce highly usable documents for readers with significant vision impairment, and how to convert inaccessible documents to an accessible format while supporting students in a higher education environment. Specifically, this job entails editing math equations in LaTex or MathType and describing images as part of a process that adapts textbooks and other course materials for use by students with vision impairments.

Note: For students who demonstrate outstanding editing skills, teamwork, and work ethic in this position, there will be an opportunity to be considered for a graduate assistantship position. The next open assistantship runs from August 2020 to May 2021, and includes tuition remission and a stipend.

Educational Background: Because we are often editing materials for advanced courses, we particularly interested in individuals with background in chemistry, foreign languages, law, accounting, linguistics, and/or mathematics (helpful, but not required).

Shift times: The ATAC’s normal office hours are M-F 8 AM – 6 PM. Must be able to work at least 10 hours a week during the ATAC’s office hours. The ideal candidate would work shifts of 2-4 hours.

  • Efficient and detail oriented

  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel
