Other: Beginning Fall 2022 the position will have a .50% FTE (i.e. 20 hours per week for academic year and be eligible for student health insurance. A fee remission is available.
The Graduate Mentoring Center (The GMC) serves graduate students at Indiana University Bloomington. The GMC was founded in fall 2014 through funds provided by President Michael A. McRobbie. As part of the University Graduate School, it is one of the many Graduate Diversity Initiatives supported by these funds. The Center’s programming, therefore, will also emphasize mentorship for underrepresented minority graduate students. Within the larger mission of The Center and the University Graduate School, The Center also provides support and resources for faculty and staff who are interested in learning about mentoring graduate students and developing mentoring programs.
Duties and Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Graduate Assistant for Center Programs include, but are not limited to: - Assisting with a Strategic Needs Assessment to help the Center set goals for the coming years
- Co-creating innovative mentoring programs for faculty, students, and staff.
- Co-producing scholarship on mentoring
- Facilitating or co-facilitating new and ongoing trainings, workshops, and activities, including the mentoring cohort.
- Collaborating with other campus units/departments to development and implement events.
- Maintaining the Center’s website:
- Attending WCMS training sessions and staying up to date on webserve updates and changes.
- Utilizing the IU Framework and ensuring IU Framework compliance.
- Archiving old website material for later reference.
- Overseeing public events.
- Assessing the effectiveness of ongoing programs.
- Responding to inquiries.
- Representing the Center at selected public events.
The Graduate Assistant will also participate in various stages of the development, delivery, and assessment of classes, workshops, and other programs facilitated by the Center, and may participate in and/or present at professional meetings and conferences. Other responsibilities may include additional survey development, marketing and promotions, and working with designated partners, including student organizations and culture centers. Qualifications Preferred applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral program at Indiana University and must have a strong interest in and experience with mentoring. Master’s candidates with relevant experience may be considered. The position requires knowledge of programs including InDesign, Qualtrics, and common office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as social networking services, including Facebook and Twitter. Applicant must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be well organized, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applicant should have experience in project management, public speaking, research, evaluation and assessment, and familiarity with campus organizations. A strong interest in mentorship, working with other graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty as part of a teaching-learning community is especially important. Schedule The position is available for the 2022/2023 academic, but can be extended. Graduate Assistant is expected to work 20 hours a week and must be eligible for a Student Academic Appointment.
