Graduate Assistantship
Prints, Drawings, and Photographs
Fall 2023-Spring 2024
Deadline for applications: April 7, 2023
The Eskenazi Museum of Art—Indiana’s treasury for the art of the world—is a preeminent teaching museum, providing exceptional opportunities for all to engage with the visual arts. Our graduate assistant program supports a team of Indiana University students from various disciplines who work collaboratively with mentors at the Eskenazi Museum of Art on individual and shared projects that realize institutional gains and advance student learning goals. Through regularly scheduled collaborative learning meetings, our program provides opportunities for graduate assistants and museum personnel to engage as a community of scholars, learning
together in ways that support the museum’s current work and future scholarship and career goals.
Curatorial (Prints, Drawings, and Photographs)
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will be introduced to curatorial practice and learn how to apply art historical scholarship to projects oriented toward the public. They will support daily operations in the Prints, Drawings, and Photographs (PDP) department, assisting with exhibition projects and collection research. The GA will work with the mentor on programming and departmental outreach for the Jeffrey A. Wolin exhibition (September-December 2023) in the Featured Exhibition Gallery, and the Saul Steinberg exhibition (January-June 2024) in the PDP Gallery. They will also work on the assessment, final report, and preparation of permanent exhibition files for the Wolin and Steinberg exhibitions. The GA will research the collection and new
acquisitions, and create and update curatorial files. In the museum’s collections management system, they will update records, including verifying exhibition and bibliographic citations and adding new information, such as visual descriptions (alt-text), catalogue raisonné numbers, and states. The GA will present gallery talks and assist with PDP Study Center visitor/class supervision as needed. There is also the possibility to do a film introduction and blog posts for the Art and a Movie series with the IU Cinema.

Graduate assistantships include a stipend, fee remission, and enrollment in IU’s student appointee medical and dental plans.
