The Office of the Vice President Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs
Primary Role: The Diversity Education and Cross-Cultural Engagement Assistant, a Graduate Student 12 month 37.5% or 15 hours per week academic appointment provides assistance to the AVP of Diversity Education and Cross-Cultural Engagement by researching current articles, events, education materials, documents, and news related to today’s diversity education and engagement needs. Assists with the assessment, creation, implementation, and delivery of diversity training for faculty, staff, students, management, and others virtually and face to face university wide. Assists with logistics and responds to inquires as appropriate.
Weekly hours: 15 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 6 pm. Flexible work shift with some weekend work required. Schedule of hours is approved by the AVP recognizing no work is assigned during scheduled classes. The academic appointed graduate student will ensure no work is performed during their class scheduled time whether their class is in session or cancelled. The AVP and student will comply with academic graduate student maximum of no more than 30 hours of work across all employment held within Indiana University.
Compensation: $11,723 Paid as $976.93 per month, 1 year paid Health Insurance
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Research articles, movies, events, books, education materials, documents and news related to social justice, diversity, inclusion, education, engagement, cultures, and other
- Assist AVP by providing insight into pop/contemporary culture to best relate to training session participants, management, faculty, staff, students, and other customers
- Assist AVP with the development of workshop content and preparation of events pertaining to diversity education and cultural engagement
- Assist AVP in assessing and developing content for the diversity education needs of individual IU departments, units, and community organizations
- Collaborate with OVPDEMA Culture Centers and ensure cross functional issues, concerns, and challenges are inclusive in the department’s educational training and development
- Assist with logistics and implementation of diversity education and inclusion workshops, presentations and events
- Facilitate or co-facilitate diversity education, training and cultural engagement processes
- Assist with collection, analysis, evaluation, and reporting of program assessments
- Assist with social media campaigns and interface with OVPDEMA Marketing staff
- Attend meetings on behalf of the AVP
- Represent the department in a professional and courteous manner
Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree required
Must be currently enrolled in a Bloomington Campus Graduate Program with a minimum of 6 credit hours or in G901 and be in good standing
Minimum Experience: One ye ar minimum experience in each of the following areas: student organization leadership; presentation deliveries to large and diverse groups and the public; facilitation and participation in diversity programming. One year experience in cross-cultural communication.

- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Excellent communications, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, including pubic speaking
- Excellent writing, proofing, and editing skills
- Facilitation and training delivery skills
- Knowledge about current trends related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of diversity, inclusion, and engagement processes
- Cultural competency
- Able to research, assess, and problem solve issues and concerns, logistics, customer needs, face to face and virtual training factors
- Sound judgement and decision making skills
- Ability to function well in a diverse work and service environment among colleagues and others from diverse cultural and identity groups and from diverse job positions
- Solid command of basic desktop computer skills. Practical application and experience with data bases, spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, and Zoom
- Able to remote work and office work in accordance with university safety provisions while under COVID-19, during and after
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record that is insurable by Indiana University
- Availability for travel within and across university campuses as well as within Indiana and across the states when needed
Expectations:
Must be able to work independently and able to work in an office and/or remotely. Must observe and comply with the University’s COVID-19 health and safety requirements and OVPDEMA guidelines. There may be office work requirements during COVID-19. Upon conclusion of COVID-19, office work may or may not predominately prevail.
The graduate student employee must comply with academic guidelines of 30 hours weekly maximum of work engagement across all positions of employment held with Indiana University.
