Center for the Study of the Middle East- Pathways Content Developer

The Center for the Study of the Middle East (CSME) in collaboration with the Eskenazi Museum of Art and other area studies centers in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies seeks a Pathways Content Developer for the 2023-24 academic year.

In collaboration with the Eskenazi Museum education and curatorial staff, interns will help develop digital tours ("Pathways") in Quest, the museum's new web application that is being designed for smartphone and computer use in the museum galleries as well as at home and in classrooms. The app supports audio, video, and/or textual guides to objects in the museum’s collection.

The position is supported by Title VI Area Studies Centers in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, and thus the Pathways developed will be expected to have international content. The Pathways Content Developer will identify objects of interest, research the objects, and create audio, video, and/or textual content pertinent to the object in the context of a specific Pathway theme. "Global Networks" is one of the initial themes to be explored.

Job Details

  • Researches, writes, and produces Pathways content.
  • Works with Museum staff to identify relevant objects, researches their relevance for the Pathway theme, writes descriptions of the object in the context of the theme, and produces text, audio, and/or video segments. 
  • Substantial autonomy during the research phase.
  • Produces text, audio, or video segments using relevant software.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student at Indiana University

SKILLS

Required

  • Interest in the Eskenazi Museum collection and in making the collection accessible to in-person and virtual museum visitors
  • Ability to carry out independent research in consultation with museum professionals
  • Ability to set and maintain individual schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse audience required, including awareness of and sensitivity towards cultural differences
  • Interest or expertise in area studies, art history, curatorial studies, art education, or arts administration
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and some familiarity with audio and video editing software (e.g. Adobe Audition, Kaltura)

Compensation: $20/hour

Work hours: 5 hours/week
