SUMMARY

Title: Graduate Assistant for Peer Financial Education

Position: Student Academic Appointment

Duration: August 2025 to May 2026, with opportunity for renewal in AY26 Position

Open To: All full-time IUB Master’s and doctoral students

Remuneration: $24,000 academic year/20 hours a week

Sponsoring Unit: Office of Financial Wellness & Education

Location: 504 N Fess Ave., Bloomington, IN 47405

Priority Application Deadline: June 12, 2025

Other: Beginning Fall 2025 the position will have a .50% FTE (i.e. 20 hours per week for academic year and be eligible for student health insurance. A fee remission is available as part of the package. Priority for this position will be given to those early in their academic program as the ideal candidate will be able to work with office for more than one semester. Previous knowledge and experience with personal finance and money management education is preferred, but not required.

 

The Office of Financial Wellness & Education (OFWE) serves students across IU campuses to help them make informed financial decisions and provide resources to help them overcome financial barriers to college completion. When the program first was established, the focus was on reducing student loan debt. Over the last few years, the Office has placed an emphasis on ensuring the education provided helps increase financial confidence and reduce financial stress through:

· Confidential one-on-one appointments

· Presentations for classes, student organizations, and university-affiliated programs.

· Online financial education resources.

The focus of the GA for Peer Financial Education at IUB is to lead and expand peer financial wellness services for graduate and professional students and provide program support to undergraduate and graduate Student Financial Educators (SFEs).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Graduate Assistant for Peer Financial Education include, but are not limited to:

· Provide confidential one-on-one appointments and group presentations to IUB graduate and professional students on topics such as budgeting, credit, saving, investing, taxes, major purchases, and more (30%).

· Develop and implement a financial wellness awareness marketing campaign aimed toward expanding service utilization among IUB graduate and professional students (15%).

· Assist OFWE staff with the daily administration of the Peer Student Financial Educator program including scheduling, training, professional development, and hiring (15%).

· Collaborate with other campus units/departments to develop partnerships that lead to increased office traffic (15%).

· Coordinate with office personnel to create new content and learning modalities that will benefit IU community (10%).

· Participating in office administrative tasks such as answering emails, data collection, report preparation, and coordination of supplies (10%).

· Representing the Office at various events across the University to deliver programming and promote its services (5%).

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be enrolled full time in a master’s or doctoral program at Indiana University Bloomington and eligible for a Student Academic Appointment. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in and experience with leading, mentoring, student wellness, and client service. While the ideal candidate will have some financial knowledge, it is not a requirement. Training on personal finance content, coaching/mentoring, and ethics necessary to serve peer clients and support OFWE student staff will be provided as part of onboarding. The position requires knowledge of common office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as social networking services. Applicant must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be well organized, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applicant should have experience in project management, public speaking, and leadership.

SCHEDULE

The position is available for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters but can be extended into the 2026-2027 academic year, contingent on continued funding. In addition, there is opportunity for employment during Summer 2026 that would be funded outside of the listed stipend. The Graduate Assistant is expected to work 20 hours a week.
