THE PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT is one of four graduate assistants who work directly with fellow graduate students in the GradGrants Center, a graduate student service located in the Wells Library-BL. The Center is sponsored by The Indiana University Graduate School Bloomington and is available to enrolled graduate students at IUB. The consultants handle the day-to-day operations of the GradGrants Center and share training responsibilities (e.g., developing grant-writing content, working one-on-one with graduate students from all disciplines, presenting grant training workshops, preparing visual aids and materials, handling web and social media content). Our consultants assist students in their search for external funding sources and are available to work one-on-one with graduate students in discussing and critiquing their grant proposals.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements include successful grant-writing experience, editing skills, teaching experience or experience in planning and presenting special-interest training programs, and the ability and personality to interact well with the public. A one-year commitment to the position is preferred. Those who have received prior Fulbright awards or other competitive national grants are highly desired. We prefer advanced doctoral students who have at least two years in graduate school.
BENEFITS: This position provides an invaluable opportunity to learn about various funding sources and to improve one’s own grant-writing skills. The experience is extremely valuable to future faculty and those who intend to work in non-profit or government fields.
The position, starting in Summer 2024, will be hourly at a rate of $15/hour for the remainder of the summer with an hourly maximum of 10 hours/week. The person hired will work half or all the summer on this hourly basis as arranged with Kim Bunch, Director of Finance and Administration. Starting in the Fall semester, 2024, the position will be .50% FTE (i.e., 20 hours per week) and is eligible for student health insurance. The salary will be approximately $22,000 for the academic year (or $11,000 per semester) with a tuition remission. The position could be renewed for the following summer and academic year (2025-2026). A tuition remission for fall and spring is available for renewed contracts.
To apply for the position, please send a Cover Letter and Curriculum Vitae to ugsawg@iu.edu. Application review will begin on Monday, April 29th, 2024. Please note the position will be hourly from the point of hire until the appointment starts with the Fall, 2024, semester.
