STEM Summer Research Experience Program
June 16 – August 1, 2025
Call for Research Project Proposals
Proposal Deadline – March 2nd (11:59pm) 2025
If you are new to the Groups SREP, see “WHAT We Do” and “WHO Should Apply” below. If you are a SREP veteran, feel free to skip to “How To APPLY.”
WHAT We Do
Our summer research experience pairs standout incoming STEM freshmen with a research mentor for 6 weeks of guided laboratory research over the summer. Students spend approximately 12 hours in the lab per week, write a research paper, and present at the IUB Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium, all under the supervision of their mentor.
The students who participate are selected via a competitive application process. They tend to come from diverse backgrounds and have lofty STEM ambitions (e.g., medical or graduate school, NASA, etc.).
Those eager to learn more are encouraged to check out THESE SLIDES from last year’s mentor orientation.
WHO Should Apply To Be a Mentor
You might be an excellent fit for our program if you:
Do hands on laboratory research in a STEM/STEM-connected discipline. Are passionate (and/or experienced) providing 1-on-1 mentorship to the next generation of STEM researchers and professionals (many of whom come from diverse backgrounds). Are looking to increase student engagement with your lab (many students continuing working with their mentor’s lab during the academic year—though this is totally optional)! How To APPLY
