MITCHELL WIDMER
Mitchell Widmer is a doctoral student at the Jacobs School of Music in Voice with a minor in music history. In addition to stage and concert work, Mitchell’s research interests include the musical traditions of separatist religious communities in the United States, specifically the Old Order Amish and Mennonite communities of rural southeastern Iowa.
Widmer is a recipient of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung in 2014, for German and musical studies in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. He was also a United States Teaching Assistant in coordination with Fulbright Austria for the 2018-2020 academic years. Mitchell has presented his research, “O Gott Vater, wir loben dich: The congregational singing of the Old Order Amish of Johnson/Washington County” at the Midwest Graduate Music Consortium at Northwestern University and at the Annual Central Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing conference in 2023. Widmer enjoys engaging with students from all areas of academia and assisting them in securing funding for their research.
